What is retirement age of a furnace?

Well, a furnace lives for 18 to 20 years on an average. However age is not everything. You should consider the condition of a furnace before replacing it. If it is generating repair bills frequently, which may not be steep, replacing it is a wise decision. This is because it will break down soon after the repair. It is a hassle to carry out frequent repairs and the small bills will add up to a huge one. If the cost of repair is 50% of the cost the new furnace, go for a new one. Furnaces older than 20 years will consume more energy because of their inefficiency.
